Tom-Fooleries

by Deborah Breuer

I know this great guy,
He’s a good friend to me
But he got involved in emotional tom-foolery
It’s a simple tale, truly
One that starts out cake and poetries
But then ends sad with comments and cruelties
Here’s how it goes
How it went I mean
A three lines story of emotional tom-foolery
A man loved a girl
No love came back
Then he set himself on a self-destructive path
And last night it got hot
Passions were rising
Harsh words slung
Egos were flying
STOP! I cried STOP!
There is no need to be silly!
Girls aren’t worth blood, nor skin, nor tom-foolery!
I wish he had heard me
I had wise words to say
But hard heads couldn’t hear me
When I spoke to them that day
But if he had
And I’ll tell you this true
His life would be easier and with less “boo-hoos”.
