“July 19, 2004: A Suicide’s Final Words in the First”

by Deborah Breuer

Streaming through your veins,
I poison your blood,
Manipulate your mind,
And cause a chemical imbalance,
Leading one to euphoric but premature enlightenment.
Hot and now transparent, you suction me into an instrument of paranoia and disillusionment.
I break through your fleshy fortress making a B-Line to the blue highway of man’s circulatory transportation system.
You begin to feel faint and there’s an uncomfortable itch just outside of your capabilities.
Your eyes become heavy…
And then you fall asleep…
Sleep…
Sleep…
The indisputable reality that your doom has taken you, and you…ALL OF YOU…is slowly seeping into the part of the brain where you can no longer hide from it.
“Just one more,” you said.
I ran through you taking control of all that is vital…
BUMP-BUMP
BUMP-BUMP
BUMP
BUMP
You gave into me.
My power consumed your every last breath until…
“Mike,” she said
“Mike,” she whispered, her eyes becoming glazed over with translucent tears.
Even now, some time later, she weeps at night, when all is still, sending the words to reverberate off the farthest edges of the universe.
“I love you,” she weeps, sparkling droplets trickling down the exquisiteness of her pale skin…
Praying that you will hear her and finally,
Rest in peace.
