Entropy

by Therese Elaine

We are the unbroken, unbound, unashamed and unaccepted. We are the the ugly, the harsh, the bruised and the blunt. We are the truthtellers and the soothsayers. We are the poor, the gifted, the wanton and illicit. We are paupers, pagans, princes, poets and prophets. We are the indignant, the doomed and the damned. We are the daysleepers and nightworkers. We haunt the crowded sidewalks and seamy underbellies of cities. We are the prostitutes and dime store novelists, the thrillseekers and nomadic wanderers. We are gin-soaked dreams and graphic content, we are neon havens and late night diners. We are the tortured artists, the grieving widows, the orphaned children and the godless men. We are the menial laborers and unwilling soldiers. We are the keepers of a withered garden still hoping for spring. We are the angels where there is no faith. We are machines of flesh, ruled by metal monoliths. We are the blind leaders, mute heralders and crippled supporters. We are what we are not supposed to know about. We are the admitted, the blatant, the arrogant and the aware. We are absent of narcotic or narcissism, of false security and futile hope. We know the worst part of ourselves. We remember what it is to bleed. We know what it is to be men -to be counted among the living, though you would count us among the forgotten, the lost, the never-was. We know what it is to be grateful, though we are shunned. We are the beautiful, the perfect and the exalted.

We are the disenfranchised, the disinherited, the disfigured and the dying.

We are ENTROPY.

We are acceptance of life, and the inevitable consequence of death.

We are, and that's all we need be.

This reminds me so much of a piece I wrote called "With Angels Guiding My Hands." I'll have to show you sometime. Either way, good stuff. This should be a speech all of man should hear.
