Candle

by Amy Niggel

What good can a candle be
if it is lit in a bright room.
You can only see the light
when you walk through the darkness.
And do you ever see the light at all?
For it is with the light you see.
So I sit here drawing candles
in the darkness
Lighting each with a silent prayer
That I may carry light into dark spaces
and so enlighten the world.
