Funeral for a convict by Maria Terezia Ferencz
When she pulled his body out of there
stiff cold dead
no one cared
They were all waiting to feed
swimming around like they always did
one more convict
someone's fish
on this they feed
one more convict dead
not unusual nothing new
what did it mean
his bloated eyes
shedding skin
once a living being
one more convict free
he's swimming
still feeding
on her dream
09/10/2006 Author's Note: Dead fish in the tank this morning, a convict, and all the rest of the fish were begging for food. No big deal to them. Reminded me of prison. I wonder is this what it is really like? I hope not.

I just took my niece & nephew to the zoo yesterday and I was thinking the same thing when we were looking at the giraffes. But of course I can make almost everything out to be a prison, guess it is all about perception. |
