God Rest This Soul

by Sahar Rahim

He came to see me
Came to tell me of all he'd done
Set plans for the future
Ones that involved me

He assumed I'd be there
Smile full of shine
Didn't know I'd gone
Been taken quickly from this life

Never have I seen such heart break
Never had I seen a grown man cry the way he did
No one could offer very much comfort
Just dropped to his knees and called up to me

God let me watch him
Let me be there with him
His drunken nights when he would cry
I was there

Didn't feel me coming
Couldn't see past that night
How do you fix the soulwhen it dies
God give me the answers to life

The the day came
When he tried to take his life
He asked the questions, trying to reason for life
I whispered the answers, pleading with him not to leave
I swear he heard me that night, looked up right into my eyes
That's the first time he smiled
That's when he began to live his life

I was there when he met her
Was there on his wedding day
The vows he spoke made me smile
I knew he'd be ok

Later he excused himseld
Found a place we could be alone
He said, I love you more than you'll ever know
But you don't have to worry about me anymore
God rest your soul

God gave me answers
Helped me get him on his way
I'll forever be watching him
From heaven, I know he'll be ok
God rested my soul that day

This gave me goosebumps. I have often wondered how dead people felt when no one believed in them anymore. Thanks for the glimpse.
