Atlantic Placid

by Jacki M Butler

The ocean is placid and calm
     much like a well-mannered lake.
Quiet, without a single wave
     breaking on the shore.
The unmoving surf is peaceful
     in its lack of turbulence.
Under cover or clouds,
few people take advantage of its splendor.
Though there are sparse amounts of children
     playing along the water's edge.
A boat moves swiftly across the ocean,
causing a ripple to form and flow to shore.
So tranquil and quiet, you can hear it
     gently break upon the shore.
