early-ness dressed in death
by Charlie Morgan
early lovers, entwined, shivering
in the cool ocean breeze,
gulls having their early-morning way
with slow-to-be-quick urchins who
dare to make their milleau the
ocean's edge...waves a flimsy
protection from the hungering
whose wingtips trace the shoreline like
every watchman's second.
as the sun's heat brings others to life,
then to their death--
lovers have a brunch,
which begins the last stage
of their life.
a hand we all play.
