I-80 East

by Leonard M Hawkes

I feel very American
Up the canyon toward Wyoming;
Well known sites
Of the Mormon Trail
The landmarks along the way.

The railroad too
Runs here old and historic,
Its stops (some but memory)
Once the towns
Along the way.

And the old road that wound
Round the curves of the mountains
Up the path of the Weber,
Slow lanes in the bottoms:
Now fragments and memory.

Yes, here on the four lane
With the semi's and campers,
With RV's, and ATV's
All headed somewhere
Both east and fun.
