The Devil Again (No Satisfaction, No Sympathy Either)

by Nicole Assenza

Better the devil you know—
Better, but
I’m forced to wander—
Like eyes to eyes

I already know
My soul is not my own
I’d rather let it go
To someone, I know

The fact is honey still--
Hell feels like home
And that you--
Won’t satisfy

It’s the devil I know

For you, my sentiment
Is a stale
And half drunk wine
Nothing more to give--
But for a while
It’ll get you high

And still-- it
Won’t satisfy

And poison aftertastes like
An old friend
I used to know that--
You shouldn’t stay around

And you’re the devil, I know;

These are old reasons--
They
Don’t satisfy, you
Know
There will be another time

Because I’m—
Better (than)…
--that devil
You know
