Not a Talker, but a Writer

by Susan Q Tomas

I prefer to write, over talking.
Because when I write, I am not interrupted
by the person I am writing to.

I prefer to write, over talking.
Because when i am saying something
the other person doesn't want to hear,
they can't stop me from continuing.

I prefer to write, over talking.
Because when I am angry or hurt,
I can explain why, to whom I want.
Face to face they may deny my right to feel.
But in writing, I exist. No deny.

I prefer to write, over talking.
Because so often what is being said,
is not being heard.
But the written word is there, on paper.
I can prove what I said, over and over,
Read it until you get what I'm saying.

Author's Note: This started out as a pity party. But then I wrote a letter to the person who hurt my feelings, then I wrote this piece, and now I feel better.

OK, I forgot to click that limited HTML square - much better now.

"Because so often what is being said, is not being heard...Read it until you get what I am saying" How many times I have said that I do not think someone actually hears what I am saying. So I write and sometimes not always they do get what they missed when I tried to tell them, well put. smh

But then there are times when the written word fails to communicate everything that is being 'said' - facial expressions, gestures, yawns hee hee. I guess it depends upon what it is you want to deliver/receive? Having said written that, I'm inclined to sympathize with your sentiments - it's like stencilling a message on someone's consciousness :)

Seems every time I finally land on a branch of yours - you've written my own thinking. I wish I could write like this...I hope I'll learn some from you.
I love this one, too. It's another one I want to keep in me. So...in my faves, Jave! —Jill
