cost of being

by Charlie Morgan

the unborn are perpetually plagued
and tormented
and unhappy as long as they do not exist.

cast into a world in which unborn people live,
they burst the seams of placentae
and bring themselves into our own lives:
and now they will know
true plague, true torment;
that of the born.

such is a moderate cost of existence
for the poor and the rich.
