I only hear what I don't want to hear by Vere Mantratriadas a child,
I carried a dictionary
everywhere I went
to fill the void
where voice escaped me.
as a pre-teen,
it was a rarity that
I would be found
without headphones
secured to my ears.
as a teen,
the tv served as
replacement where few
came to call and far
fewer stayed to listen.
as an adult,
I sleep with the phone
pressed against my head
tv and computer, humming
off-setting the otherwise.
as a person,
silence has been my
greatest torture within
and beyond my head that you
seem to have mastered.
it was words that came between us
now, each day, I wait and wait
for words to come between us
once again. 08/21/2006 Posted on 08/21/2006 Copyright © 2025 Vere Mantratriad
