From the Inside Out

by Tracy Ellen

Humility, humility, humility!
I beg and plead for that precious seed
Of vulnerable weight to hold me down
Grounded by goodness and sense,
But never by that common take
On Heaven’s sake
Never by that sense born of fears
Never will these popular ideas
Be fertile enough to sprout
Wings of true hope
To foster strength born of insight
To heal reality’s nasty bite
Only I can give it to me
And only we can set us free
It can only come from the inside out
Sweet, sweet humility.
