the room

by Peter Humphreys

the room
is quiet
now
the tensions
gone
as mantles
cool to black
and radiant
heat
once burning
glows
no more
yes
the room is
quiet now
as she
sits and
wonders
dazed
crumpled
crying
bereft
of hope
how
it
came
to this
how they
threw
it all
away when
no-one
stole
it from
them
for the
room is
still
unquiet
with
memories
of
love
quaking
heart
searching
child
making
moments
lost
now in
tears
screams
silence
quietude
calm
cool
