ross

by Peter Humphreys

remembering
ross upon
his strand
head on lap
hand in hand
we while
away the
time as
breakers
boom on
distant
shore
we wonder
more
and
more
if such
days of
magic
joy
and loss
won out of
hardship
at such cost
are
consigned
to history
for ever
as three
black shags
point out
to sea
I look
at you
and you
at me
as briar
roses
bloom

Again, lovely imagery.

This could only come "out of Ireland". Terrific poetics, Peter. Thanks for the "postcard".
