empty time

by Vere Mantratriad

the grass tangles through her hair,
stains her knees and lodges itself
in the spaces between her fingertips
morning seems a lifetime ago as she
brings the day’s events through her mind
none of it terribly important, though all
painfully dear to her in this trance
so distracted, she doesn’t even notice the ant
crawling between the hairs on her left arm
nor the obvious, spilling out over the lawn
the pages turn themselves, despite her
efforts to start over at the beginning
perhaps if she could convince her mind
to wake up on this day, for the second time
she could change her current position
but her efforts bear no change
eventually, the world stops on his face
and time becomes emptiness and black

there is so much in this dense and weighty piece...it demands a second read to fully appreciate the duality of the topic and the flow...images are embroidered into the fabric of this poem in a very natural and thoughtful way...interesting and poignant...a pleasure, peace, jewels
