Kid's Court

by Rick Hamrick

We’re done
We’re finished
We’re through
Let’s get on with our lives now
We’ll manage just fine now
And the kids, well...

(Chorus)
Daddy, why is Mommy gone again?
Mom, why did Dad leave so mad?
Why can’t we just be a happy family?
Tell me, Mommy... why, Daddy?

You and I are so bruised
We fail anymore to see the light
Each other still has inside.
We hurt and cry and burn so badly
And those kids...

Chorus

We’ve tried, Lord knows
it’s not a lack of it
We’re done, though, and we best deal with it.
In our day-to-day efforts
Can we remember what the kids
Most want to know?

Chorus

Author's Note: I wrote this to express my own empathic feelings for my four kids as their mom and I went down the road to divorce. That was ten years ago as of today, and everyone is better off as a result of this action.
