17. veteran

by Peter Humphreys

on crowded
trains young
couples court
and parents
sit and
wonder as
old men
chat their
wives sit
tight and
wait for
better
weather
young children
scream their
balls to
chase from
beaches
since
deserted
as stations
pass small
waves break
fast and
colour
slowly
fades
while
in a corner
last to
leave
his leg
in brace
his breath
to catch
his rod
and line
beside him
he does
not rush
for he already
has his
tea
flapping in
a bucket
beside
him

"for he already has his tea flapping in a bucket beside him" I like how you made a refreshment out of what I perceived as a caught fish flapping in his bucket.
