Courtship Verses

by Charles M Harrison

The sun and sky are nothing compared to you
the moon and stars hide their faces in shame.
Next to you they know they can not shine
for beauty had no name before you came.

If Helen of Troy could see your face
she would surely weep.
For although she launched a thousand ships
a million men would die at your feet.

There are oceans with their splendor
and mountain views galore.
But it is your smile that brings me pleasure
this and nothing more.

Life is full of chances
I know I will take a few.
I ask you now to be my friend
and let me give my love to you.

Author's Note: Each was separate verses I wrote for my wife while dating her. We dated for two weeks I asked her to marry me and we married two weeks later.
