Star Gazers

by Charles M Harrison

Far away on a distant world
in the dark of night.
Upon the crest of a grassy knoll
he gazes at the heavenly lights.
With wonder, he watches,
as they twinkle like diamonds in the sky.
They bring to his mind all the questions
of how, where, and why.
Far off in one corner
is a dimly flickering ball.
Known to those who live near it
as the star called Sol.
He can not see the planet
that is much like his own.
He is not aware of the beings,
who on it make their home.
There upon this other world
in the dark of night.
On the crest of a grassy knoll
another gazes at the lights.
With wonder, he watches,
as they twinkle like diamonds in the sky.
They bring to his mind all the questions
of how, where, and why.
Across the vast universe
at each stars flickering light
how many star gazers might there be,
watching diamonds in the sky at night.

Yeh - it's a seductive proposition - and (subject to my interpretation :) I enjoyed the wry parallel drawn between the murky world of conspiracy theory and the scintillating presentation of what lies at the outer extremes of our powers of conjecture...
