storm

by Peter Humphreys

now
the storm
is over
old rain
rests
in pools
in hollowed
ground
sun pours
through
leaved
branches
waving
still
but
not now
crazily
manically
terrifying
as
last night
when
we rode
the forces
in us
and did
not know
the end

as the
storm
is over
fuchia
dance
jauntily
with
shadows
in the
morning
sun
flicking
flecking
flagstone
floors
inside
all quiet
now
the cottage
sighs
as sighed
it has
for lifetimes
gone
done and
dusted
buried in
nearby
ground

if the
storm is
over
can I
sigh
kiss you
cry
for in
the chimney
top
the storm
still
sounds

raw
resilient
returning
