Little League

by Cathlyn Cartier

Hours of practice in the hot sun,
all led to this moment...

Game tied, extra innings

Coach calls you up,
it's your turn at bat.

The pressure is on!

As the pitcher leaves the rubber
and launches the ball towards home plate
you say a silent prayer.

The ball drops below your knees,
the umpire yells strike.

The other team cheers and your team parents leer;
it's just another bad call.

The pitcher winds up,
determination sets in,

You swing and hear the crack of the bat!

Going, going.... Gone!

Homerun!

You are an All-Star now!

The winning homeroom all players dream of! You've caught the intensity and emotion of the game.
