The difference between what is and what could have been by Aaron Michaelthere is heartbeat and breath
between now and then and now and when
there was something left out
or ignored that bit you in the ass
tomorrow, when you least expected it.
there is inch and foot and mile
defining proximity of you to me
to me to you to someone you've never met
or wouldn't have, if it weren't for you holding
my stare for that extra breath and heartbeat.
but in mile and breath and heartbeat and inch
there's time to wonder and space to look around
over your shoulder to the path you
didn't want to take but did anyway, bouncing
like a pinball along the way off everything in the way
because people crave contact and interaction.
reality is fluid, time doesn't exist,
people are only as real as you percieve them to be
and where you've been is is the only way you know how to percieve anything as real.
there is a breath and a heartbeat before you step again,
trusting the ground is still there.

Posted by Deborah Breuer on 07/11/06 at 09:54 PM Wow! Very Powerfull. I like the title too. As far as the poem itself, the ending is strong and demands something of the reader...I can't tell you what that is yet...but trust me, I'll be thinking about it for a while.
Thanks and Great work |
