skimming the surface by Aaron Michaelwaterskin tight on the surface,
rolling slowly to earth
like a drip from a dam
on impact everything contained
becomes everything you see.
face value when you've hit rock bottom
is all there is.
these tears running down the face
of solid stone
seem to tell a story,
but there's only one way to be certain.
but no one wants to take the time
to climb a dam
just to swim.
not these days.
it seems the only way to reveal yourself
is to explode,
letting everyone caught in the torrents
know exactly what you were thinking.
but you can't reel that back
once you let it go.
then there are pieces of you spread across the globe,
saturating those you meet,
leaving you in their muddied footprints
as they walk away angry.
so you sit stoic, watching people
watching you and leaving
because they catch the drips
and forego the flood,
and don't think to scale the wall
to watch the ebb and flow
of my tides.
and a tear for every friend you never knew
rolls down your face
for the next to see.
