Just my Imagination

by Aaron Michael

i thought i heard your voice

in the back of my mind yesterday,

whispering that you'd be holding my hand

in case i'd ever think that you'd leave me.

i thought i felt your lips

kiss my forehead when i fell asleep,

as if to let me know that you'd

still love me when i woke up.

i thought i saw you in my reflection

eyes sparkling with affection

and smiling at the man

that your son has become.

and i heard you still the river,

and i heard you dam the flood,

and i heard you brace my soul

before i felt you slipping away.

but you're only gone if i forget,

only forgotten if lose my memories,

and only a mere memory if i lose

the feelings that you still see me.

now my face is still flush

from the tears that never came.

and my soul still bears marks

from where your hands held it in place.

and tomorrow dawns with your warmth.

and tomorrow dawns with your warmth.

and tomorrow breaks any doubt

that it wasn't just my imagination.
