Chasing Novas

by Aaron Michael

being warm is one thing

but if you feel like

you're standing on the

sun, you're gonna burn.

holding hands in August heat

slicksweat sliding like

you've run a marathon

and only have nine million miles

before my world revolves around you.

sex in summersunsets on the sand

water so close, to our ankles,

now our waists,

people so far, we're passing Venus

in a rush, and i'm only going

where you are.

thirty million miles passed

heartbeatquick

and my head spun loose

somewhere in Haley's trail.

lying naked on my bed,

with Earth rising in the distance

you tell me you love me,

and we crash into the sun.

everything revolving around

this space between two seconds

i freeze up, despite the solarflaring,

and stars explode in your eyes.

now they're clouded over,

a perfect green nebula

staring coldly from a space that used to

be the center of my universe.

stars explode on a whim

when people hesitate in

wishing they could hold them

for just one second.

The imagery and flow are terrific. This makes me hope that everyone has a love that takes them to the stars.
