Then Will Jack Come Home by Charles M Harrison
When no child wakes and screams
only nightmares are their dreams.
because great towers tumbled
and their innocence was crumbled
When no one prays in fear
for danger may be always near
in a crowd they are not alone
just one second and all are gone
When those of religious hate
who try to control our fate
with fear, horror and dread
are all destroyed and dead
When terror holds no more sway
or controls how we live each day
then there will be no more need
for our brave solders to die and bleed
When no nation holds in any place
or provides support for terrors face
no more will our bravest roam
then will our children come home.
Today 2000 tomorrow more
yes that is the nature of war
fought by the brave who came before
and died on many a foreign shore
Compare to what terror has cost
in blood and death and futures lost
into our hearts those millions stare
and ask why many stood without a care
Then will Jack, Joe and John
Jennifer, Melissa and Shaun
be given thanks that they deserve
by the nation they chose to serve.
Count the cost, then we will
of the ones whos blood did spill
and hope that it is the last
that the season for war has past
Know we then with backward site
that what was done was done for right
to bring an end once and forever
to any and all of terrors endeavor.
