Genesis Revisited

by Thomas K. Hunt

Looking back
I stepped out of the comfort
Flew into the fight
One-way on a southbound flight
All I had at my heels
Feeling for the feels
Left that green for the other side
Looked for a place not to run and hide
Would the grass be greener
Would I eat my pride
I made the decision I alone took control
Wide eyed and hungry searching for my soul

Now highlighted memories
Recordings of the mind
Play like reruns from another time
Pieces of life lay scattered yet connected
Mirrors in the mind hold images they reflected
I only know what’s in my past
It’s the only thing that truly lasts
Mapped out miles not from a map
Leading nowhere always leading back
The road is long It gets longer every day
It’s hard to travel when you don’t get under way

I’ve taken my bruises
I’ve laid a few
I’ve tried to give when they deserved the due
I’ve even backed down cause I’ve used my brain
I know the right time to take a walk in the rain
I stepped out of the comfort I ran into the fight
That first step was a terrible fright
I took off running just after a few
I still look back. It’s what I do
