Walk on Water by Tracy EllenWalk on Water for the man, do the right thing, stand up
bend over, swear and faint, a goddess, a whore, a saint
What do we want? Why do we try?
Mythology is not likely to satisfy the prying, the dying,
the underlining feat of everlasting.
What fool believes in the fancies she sees
Portrayed and displayed in awful ways
The dreams of what could be?
Are they ever realized?
Perhaps, in the blink of and eye.
Perhaps, hiding
As a numbness in the back of the brain
As a hardness in the back of the throat
A tingle, a twitch, the snap of a switch
A sweet respite, a nasty bite!
Why should we stand for it?
What should we stand for?
How should we stand?
No harm is meant,
and thats the worst of it.
So unjust, so unfair, so much effort to care
met only by an effort to spare a little unbloodied pain
What a silly notion, this cut your losses devotion
This unyielding distance prompted by fears of resistance
What is love?
Better, why is love?
