the drive home always takes less time than the drive there by Wendy GealYou are writing lines to chick flicks
and I am an actress spitting out flashy comebacks
quite improvised like the stars splattered out
all over the sky
You and I are on an open field making love
and as cliché
as it sounds, I can't stop moving my lips and sucking up lies like I haven't had a glass of water in ages
But we're locked up on set, away from all
the fanatic women
who recite your lines
like prayers
And I can fake it tonight like I'm your leading lady, celebrity star maybe
we can have one of those on-screen romances
That must be what I am, a nice little promotional
kind of love-thing.
And I am enjoying your company like a wife enjoys
the last days of her terminally ill husband's life.
But suddenly now the film is shot and they're
packing up the crew,
a day seemed a lot longer yesterday than today.
"This is as good as it gets", I thought as we drove off
and I could see the mountains getting smaller
as we drove
closer to the bottom.
Just as the way home is,
it's all downhill from here. 06/26/2006 Author's Note: When things are perfect, I count on them going down. It always takes a lot longer to get where you want to be
but you always get back a hundred times quicker...
