Mad Ivan, The Cat by Steven Craig
Breathless! I race past Ivans door
Bare teeth greet me at the end of the hall as before.
Reckless I charge, and dodge slashing claw
Ivan's mouth opens wide as a threshing maul.
To ceiling I leap, in the fixtures, shelter I seek,
But Ivans there, leering with jaws agape,
turning for a feast upon my flesh to keep.
Deny him I must, and in one final burst
as a storm I rage past him madly to your door.
Fending spirited assaults of honed talons
with failing hope collapsing upon the floor
Now, Ivan closes, furred belly pulsing and savagely bounds!!
I awake screaming as the alarm clock sounds.
