09. swallows

by Peter Humphreys

crossing
the piazza
the huge
dome
dominates
its arms
embrace
the faithful
and
its wall
excludes
the damned

a policeman
watches
pilgrims
rest
as we
kiss
beneath
the colonnades
a child
cries
and
swallows
swoop
the evening
sky away

Wonderfully executed alliteration in yet another beautifully painted scene.
