07. lateran

by Peter Humphreys

walking
down
the lateran
hill
as if
my time
stood
still

the sun
poured
through
the narrow
street
and
old ladies
wobbled
on the feet
that
carried
children
years ago

but now
just
flowers
from the
church

walking down
the
lateran hill
I feel
the sun
upon my
face
as lovers
chase
and then
embrace
the beams
of light
upon their
backs
their sides
their bodies

in the future
when I
walk down
the lateran
hill
will my
heart
skip
or
sigh
be
still

I totally agree with Lori... the mind wanders in wonderful ways.
