If Ever I Loved by Elle O'ConnorIf ever I loved
it returns to me now
cloaked in layers
of
empty
memories that seem
to stifle the depth
of my breath
now small
and
shallow
lacklustre rivers
of blood at half mast
pumped from a heart
void of mission or flame
What remains is the sand
paper
of your absence
now leaving defenses
in dustpiles
for wind
and time has failed
to repaint you
in color
and hues still cling boldly
to haunt me
with truth
for if ever
I loved
I loved
you. 06/16/2006 Posted on 06/16/2006 Copyright © 2025 Elle O'Connor

Posted by Gregory Oregon on 11/27/06 at 04:09 PM the words you use are colorfully arranged, painting a capturing portrait of the beauty inside of you. your emotions, what you see when you feel...well done! |
Posted by Laura Doom on 01/04/08 at 11:56 PM First up - 'rivers of blood at half mast' seems slightly incongruous...this only stands out (to me) because the remaining metaphors & analogies are as near to perfect as anyone could wish. Secondly, I fail to understand how this could be rated as 'evocative' rather than 'vivid' - what I've read of your library is decidedly and consistently vivid, at the very least (yeh - even the limericks :) This piece easily deserved (and still does) potd recognition. |
