Substitute

by Rebecca Lin

It doesn't matter
if you get yellow or purple,
green or blue like the sky.
A pen or pencil,
not even a stencil,
is a good compromise.
When all you want
is a red crayon
to draw a blushing heart
and nothing else
can make up for the fact
that you are torn apart.

This is by far one of your best!!! The rhyme scheme is perfectly subtle, the diction is exquisite, and the meaning deep, but clear and well-spoken. I love it!

I love how you've broken the gentle ease with the violent red crayon. I've found myself, far too often, needing one.
