I get lost in your current

by Vere Mantratriad

sometimes I get lost
in your current
trying to stay under
but always afloat
treading water
dreading the relapse
after laps I have moved
away from again
I know I’m going under
and over and over
I become sure
I’ll never be able
to reach your shore

I get lost in your current
hoping to discover your past
praying to be part of your future
but it all leaves me tense
and dense thoughts
cloud my being able
to keep ahead of the rain
that pours down and
filters through my fingers
that only reach for
what can never be reached
out and away from
what was never in my grasp

I get lost in your current
so steadily flowing
through brainwaves that
have immobilized from overuse
and being used by those who
could never understand their use
in a reality that doesn’t exist
so I wade out where I
should not be waiting
for a fall that cascades
over jagged rocks of doubt
that pool in the bottom of
my digits under-logged over and out

in your current
some fall
some feel
some drown
wishing you
were real
