by lamp light

by Peter Humphreys

in alleys
dank and
dark
they
meet
by lamp
light
faltering
dim
she pulls
him
to her
upraised
leg and
he went
in with
him
as cats
crept by
and lights
went out
in bedrooms
cosy by
young lovers
made
the form
of one
as
Venus
graced
the sky
