Ken Mullin - RIP

by Darren Swift

I presented him with embers,
he blew upon them;
gave me back a fire.

I presented him with coal,
he took it in his hands,
compressed, squeezed out
the words not needed;
gave me back a diamond.

I presented him with a fledgling,
he straightened its wings,
nurtured it with love,
he gave me back a bird
and my words flew from the page.

I presented,
but he gave;
he always gave.

RIP Ken.

Author's Note: For Ken Mullin, a great writer, a great editor, a great giver. I shall miss his patience with my poor words.

Nice tribute

James, I feel shivers when I read this from the tenderness with which it's written. I know Ken would be proud of this tribute and maybe he's looking down from heaven and has that standard red marking pen in his hands.
