in the moments before sleep by Vere Mantratriad
I.
I'd rather be
a robot
than be given
a shot
at hell
II.
too tired
to hold this pen
too awake
to let it take me away
III.
how can I
read
between the lines
when you've
written
right through them?
IV.
once you've missed
the set up
the other rows
will not allow
the whispers
to catch you up
V.
couldn't you
tell me
any other news
with a
straight face?
VI.
1,000 scribbles
just to
keep company
is this what
you meant
when you said
right on
write on
VII.
I've never written
songs about rainbows
but I've
cried a million showers
wishing they'd appear
06/07/2006 Author's Note: just scribbling.
I have one of those notebooks like they find in the serial killer's home in movies.

Posted by Richard Vince on 06/19/06 at 06:33 PM i have odd random thoughts at similar times, but if i bothered to write them down i doubt they'd be as eloquent as yours. i hope your mind lets you get some sleep from time to time. number VII is magical, by the way. it hits very deep. |
Posted by Junemarie Roldan on 06/28/06 at 10:56 PM This whole piece is wonderful, but VII. hit me in the gut. I have felt this way one time too many, but was never able to express it as eloquently and wistfully as you have here. |
