List by Richard VinceIt's only now that I realise
How much we didn't say
In those few days in which
We exchanged words and embraces.
Still, I wonder if any of it
Was more important than what
We did share.
It's so tempting to walk into life
With a shopping list, forgetting
That what we really need
Cannot be written down;
It demands the liquidity of
A non verbal definition.
Regardless of how you answer
The questions I haven't asked,
I will be your friend until
You cease to be that indefinable
Entity I need, if ever.
So if I do ask, I will not be
Seeking a reason to leave
Your life; I will merely be
Trying to discover more,
Because I want to know more.
Now I think I understand
Why people ask such things
Of me. Perhaps I will now
Be able to discard that
Outdated paranoia that has
Defended others from knowing
The real me for so long.

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 06/06/06 at 03:49 AM Hi Richard. This is really good, IMHO. Your stanza 3 could be a poem all on its own. Nice work, indeed. |
Posted by Amy Niggel on 06/07/06 at 10:45 PM Beautiful poem, I know this feeling well enough. There are quite a few people I am still waiting for the chance to talk to. |
