Mad Sanity

by Jayme L Helmick

I long to go where you've been
Behold what you've seen
Caress what you've touched
I wish I could see you
Through the mists of time
the years of distance
I want to feel you
and know you're there
Not some dream of my
amorphic brain
Because this doesn't seem real
this life
these thoughts
that moment of panic
when your voice crept in
and split my heart
You poured me out
straining me
pulling me
pushing me
Until I thought I'd break
But you gave
as much as you took
and more
Because I found hope

And nothing more

Losing you is effortless
Since you were never
mine

And I could lament
Weep for what never was
And cage you with my guilt
But I want you
free
even from me
Because I want you
just the way you are
If you love something,
set it free

But you were never mine
to lose

I will hide in the tree
and whisper my heart
to the sympathetic moon
Cast my dreams
on blossom ships -
chafe in the wind

And say goodnight
to tomorrow.
