outstretch your arms so I can roll my eyes by Vere Mantratriad
I never thought a checkout line
could render me so lonely
palpable as I check my cart
missing the impulse buys
(why would I need 10 different kinds
of tea that I don't even drink?)
I've gone on a hunger strike
trying to strike back at you
I've gone on shopping sprees
trying to sprint away from you
I've set my phone to off
while cursing my lack of missed calls
salival bitterness drips from my tongue
while "I miss you" phlegm sticks in my throat
