black

by Peter Humphreys

sunlight
slants through
curtains
shaping shadows
on wall
brick lines

she sits
reflectively
across the
table from
me

her head
to one side
her face
preoccupied

men come
and go
she stays

hands small
eyes gentle

I wonder
