J. Lessons at the Docks by Christel CrewsThe water lapped rhythmicly against the docks
I stood on the mainland, fearful of what stood before me
You came up behind me, with that idiotic skipper's hat
and you took my hand
"I'm glad you're here"
I just stood, paralyzed by fear
He knew my fear of the unknown deep and yet
there I stood by the ocean's shore
"Come on, my dear
I've already commanded for a peace-filled night
Will you trust me?"
I stepped onto the wooden dock
the boats swayed in time with the water
He stood before me, only paces ahead
I had to meet him, step out of my fear
As I took a step, the water became angry
my eyes fell from his gaze
and I saw the stirring beneath
"You said it would be calm"
I shot him a look
I had taken a step in faith,
and now I was beyond reach of safety
"Take another step.
I am here.
Keep your eyes on me, not what would pull you down."
I lifted my head, and cautiously
I stepped forward once more
The wind ceased, leaving the boats still in the water
We stood on the docks that night
He never asked me to get into the boat
It was as if He knew I had reached my limit
But I did not flee,
I stood by His side
We would cross the lake another night
