.....what is not said

by Sandy M. Humphrey

in those long silent moments

where emotions are checked

thoughts are collected

into volumes of the unsaid

once it seemed i could read

your thoughts, mere speech

deemed unnecessary

in your eyes, your heart

now silence is a gray

steel wall with no hand hold

or reflection by which

to read what you cannot say

too tall to scale and on

the other side the sentences

collide into confused storms

of thunder and lightning

i could weather the storm

to get to the truth

once the unsaid words rain

perhaps a rainbow

Author's Note: We talk but do we communicate...what is not said can speak volumes.

Another one I can relate to. You have described my (and many other's) relationships. The ending shows hope- something we ALL long for- good write!

PS- what is not said is oft-times much more important than what is said!

I've always cherished those silent moments. Sometimes words just won't do. Wonderful piece.

Excellent fusion of silence and meaning. The imagery at the end is consistent and meaningful. And it is "... what is not said" in this poem, although much is "said" very well that gives it power, and is as a deep drum that sounds beneath it all... the emotional content. I love the "volumes of the unsaid". This is so true and beautifully expressed.
