.....what is not said by Sandy M. Humphreyin those long silent moments
where emotions are checked
thoughts are collected
into volumes of the unsaid
once it seemed i could read
your thoughts, mere speech
deemed unnecessary
in your eyes, your heart
now silence is a gray
steel wall with no hand hold
or reflection by which
to read what you cannot say
too tall to scale and on
the other side the sentences
collide into confused storms
of thunder and lightning
i could weather the storm
to get to the truth
once the unsaid words rain
perhaps a rainbow

Posted by Joan Serratelli on 05/24/06 at 06:54 PM PS- what is not said is oft-times much more important than what is said! |
Posted by Vere Mantratriad on 05/28/06 at 05:54 PM I've always cherished those silent moments. Sometimes words just won't do. Wonderful piece. |
Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 05/04/07 at 09:03 PM Excellent fusion of silence and meaning. The imagery at the end is consistent and meaningful. And it is "... what is not said" in this poem, although much is "said" very well that gives it power, and is as a deep drum that sounds beneath it all... the emotional content. I love the "volumes of the unsaid". This is so true and beautifully expressed. |
