oblivion

by Peter Humphreys

down upon
the darkling
road
night
has
fallen
again
unexpectedly
furtively
unnoticed
overwhelming
where once
was light
is dark
where once
was joy
is pain
where once
was union
dismay
where love
confusion
the cottage
door once
open
closed
across the
bay the
wind howls
whins and
thorns sinister
make
the moon
new
the deed
done
oblivion

Hi Peter. There is a stark cadence, like walking alone in this. The images are great, and the final word tells all. Thanks.

I can feel this being read. I hope you'll read it at a poetry read. (May I?) This is poetry I wish I could write.
Brilliantly mind darkening and vivid, that's what I love about it.
