Watching little girls in the park

by Vere Mantratriad

Sometimes little girls are pretty girls
So should I feel guilty for staring at them
All their curves and imagining what they'll grow to be
How they'll look in 10 years time
You might say it's awfully sick
But the growth intrigues me
Pulls me in to a place I shouldn't be
I could make them happy
You know I could
I have before
So I sit here on my park bench
Watching waiting
Anticipating the slip of their mother's hand
A divine turning of her back
Only for a moment
It's all I need
And then I can imagine her in peace
Running through fields
Picking wild flowers
And slipping them carefully into the folds of her hair

i've really got to hand it to you for this one. i read this and first thought it was written from a pedophile's point of view, then i read it again and now i am not so sure. this is very disturbing. one of the most orginal poems i've read here. even the title is good.

I'm very curious as to what that other point of view is here. I am very drawn to this poem, but what you hoped was obvious definitely wasn't obvious to me. If you had said nothing, I think that the only obvious point of view would be that of a pedophile. The idea that it isn't is intriguing, and definitely a mystery to me. I would be interested in the solution to this mystery. Intriguing.

whoa. that is properly dark. those last four lines are amazing: superficially they read as a beautiful image, but then a more sinister interpretation dawns. such an impressive piece of work.
