God is Not a Wishing Well by Susan Q TomasIf you don't struggle with faith occasionally,
then you don't think about it, don't feel, or don't live in this world.
I place my life in God's hands, have faith in Adonai alone.
In God's covenant with Abraham, he promised him
to make from him a great nation,
to bless him and make him a blessing.
to bless those who bless him,
to curse those who curse him.
All the peoples on earth will be blessed through him.
As the Christian that I am, I am in this covenant.
As the Christian that I am, when I fail to uphold my end,
I receive grace through Jesus the Messiah.
As the human that I am, I can not discern
which of my desires are purely mine,
and what desires are planted into me
by marketing, culture, and psychology.
I wrestle with the fact that the things I desire,
I rarely get.
I try to keep up my end of the deal.
But I don't want a nation, or descendants
as countless as the stars.
Nor do I want a patch of real-estate
in the land of Canaan.
I want to be healthy, loved, and happy.
I want comfort and security, and to feel good.
I want world peace, to be a size 8, and beauty.
I live in America, but I don't get paid in dollars.
I am handsomely paid in shekels and talons. 04/30/2006 Author's Note: Genesis 12:2-3
I will make you in-to a great na-tion?And I will bless you;?I will make your na-me great, and?You will be a bless-ing.?I will bl-ess those who bless you,?And who-ev-er cur-ses yo-u I will curse;?And all peo-ples on earth will be blessed through you.
And to David:
Descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
