The Saviour's Crib

by Matthew Taylor

When I was young, I thought naps..
were crap!
Never understood, why anyone would..
choose to sleep and waste the day,
miss life as it parades before us,
days then were fun,
God would never bore us!
I would wonder , why my dad..
fell asleep anytime, anywhere~
it made me mad!
why old people would sleep in the midst of a party..
or on the bus or at the movies!
made no sense then,
my youth could not understand.
Nowadays I have a contrasting point of view
tried and true theory, but , to me brand new.
when life surrounds us,
when pain and sorrow prevail..
there is an escape route provided,
where every trouble can be "hided"
in sweet rest, in the arms of God,
held up by His Son..
he has supplied every answer
to every need
for every problem
at anytime, anywhere,
no reason needed, no questions asked
we can rest in the arms of the Saviour,
He promised rest to the weary,
and rest He does give...
I fell asleep today...
in the Saviour's crib.

Author's Note: just a few yrs ago I still never understood naps, people's desires to want to sleep. I was always a nightowl, even at 10 or 12 yrs old, I'd want to do as much as possible every day, sleep was a waste of time in my mind! After a few health issues, the passing of time taking it's toll as well, naps are no longer frowned upon, but embraced, I cherish the hours when I relax in The Lord's recliner and feel His warmth and grace holding me, and just release into paradise for a few minutes, hours or maybe on day His very presence.

Well, Life is a trial, one can postpone indefinitely or face, without any hope of acquittal. Sleep is for recouping lost energies. Body needs relaxation. Mind needs sleep.

Indeed the energies of a youth and the rate and length at which he can expend and recharge are naturally different than in his latter days. The sentimental expression of faith is magnified by the contrast of youthful perspectives, but between the lines I see one who is simply...tired. For life is, indeed, a mountain we are forced to climb.
